The benefits of BB creams are undeniable. These creams are lightweight, easy to apply, hydrate the skin, nourish it, conceal minor imperfections, and look very natural. They can smooth wrinkles, cover pigmentation spots, and protect you from the sun’s rays as well. They are suitable for all skin types. Korean cosmetics are famous for BB creams—they are simply the best. But do you know what to look for when choosing a BB cream?

First and foremost, choose a BB cream based on your skin type. Different creams are suitable for normal and dry skin (in this case, we recommend moisturizing BB creams), and others for oily skin (mattifying BB creams are suitable here). If you have sensitive skin, reach for creams with a thinner consistency and avoid thick creams that would unnecessarily weigh your skin down. If you’re heading to the beach, get a BB cream with a high SPF.

How do you choose the right shade? Always try to pick a BB cream shade that matches your skin tone. Ideally, test the cream on your neck. We don’t really recommend testing it on the back of your hand, because the tone of your hands and your face is often different.

There aren’t as many shades of BB creams as there are with classic foundations. Most brands usually offer one, two, three, or four shades. Why? Because BB cream is lightweight, easy to blend, and it literally adapts to your skin tone. If you have fair skin, choose the lightest shade; if your skin is darker or tanned, go for a darker shade.

From a BB cream, we primarily expect it to hydrate our skin and conceal minor imperfections. It can also smooth, regenerate, or protect the skin from sun exposure. There are BB creams containing aloe vera (hydrate), bamboo leaf extract (nourish), niacinamide (reduce skin redness), as well as creams containing gold or caviar. A BB cream containing snail mucin will reduce inflammation and skin irritation.
